Well we all had a great time on Dan's 2nd (?) annual ULA pack trip. We hiked in for about 9 miles (some discussion about the actual mileage accrued due to shortcuts, backtracks, bushwacking, etc)and arrived at the beautiful lake G-51. After deciding there really wasn't enough room for 10 people, 15 llamas, 1 horse and 3 dogs we decided to go back down to a very large and beautifulmeadow to camp. We chose a nice campsite tucked into the woods on the edge of the meadow only to discover it was a sheep herders camp and they were "moving in" with their 6-8 horses, 4 border collies and 2 Peruvian shepherds (who were very nice and loved seeing the llamas outside of their homeland). So we then moved down the meadow a ways so we were out of their way and made a wonderful camp. We hiked, got rained on, fished, got rained on, ate great meals, got rained on and had a great time! Every night around 3:00am the border collies from the sheep camp took to chasing a loose horse around the meadow. Quite noisy and made you wonder if the horse would come crashing through your tent at any minute. Made for some additional excitement. Thanks Dan for a fun trip! (and no bugs! YEAH!) Can't wait until next year's trip!
